I photographed Kym & Burke’s wedding in 2007 & have been documenting their growing family ever since. They drive in from Virginia twice a year for updated photos & make my day every time they walk through the door. The first time I met Kym I knew that we were kindred spirits. She has a heart like no other & was truly born to be a mom. She & Burke are such incredible parents & I feel blessed to get to share little slices of their journey with them…

After photographing Lucie for 2 years, she’s practically a pro in front of the lens, but I have a feeling even she was thinking we were NUTS during this session. I know I said Ariel & Steve’s shoot was the hottest ever, but this one was a pretty close second. Its hard to believe a 2 year old & 6 month old handled 90 degree heat ( yes, its still 90 degrees at sunset in the south! ) & smiled the entire time. They blew me away with their cuteness & I hope these images give you a little glimpse into the magic of Lucie & Nina :)

  42. We love these pictures! They are beautiful children.

We happened to choose the hottest day of summer for this shoot and Steve & Ariel were total troopers. My car gauge read a toasty 102 degrees when we started shooting & they didn’t complain once. In fact, we had to take a few breaks just to laugh uncontrollably as the sweat rolled down our cheeks. By the time we wrapped it looked like we had all been swimming in our clothes. I think Steve was a bit worried they would look drenched in the pics, but as it turns out… 102 degree heat looks good on them :)

Thanks for braving the heat guys…can’t wait to see you again this Fall!

  1. I would have NEVER guessed the heat and you’re right…Sasha’s face couldn’t BE more expressive :) As always K, you tell good stories with your pics. ;)

  2. Wonderful Kellie, absolutely amazing :) I love love love the one with her on his back-so cute. And the pups are too cute. As always phenomenal work. I love them.

  3. Gorgeous, as always. I especially love the black and whites!

  4. Love these!!! Love the ones with the dogs especially. So good. Couldnt even tell it was so hot!!

  5. Beautiful as always…

  6. Great pics guys!! Love the feet shot :)

  7. Wow…wonderful stuff. I’ve got to agree the monochrome shots are great. I’m no where near “professional grade” with a lens but I think that they let the composition come through. I’m curious if your work ever brings you down to central Texas? Very glad I stumbled across the site.

  8. Mother of the Bride here….Nicely done Kellie. I like the black and whites, great shots even with the heat. My favorite is the one with Ariel looking straight at you and Steve tilting his head to hers. Of course my grand-dogs stoll the show at the end. Looking forward to meeting you in the fall..Good luck with the wedding shoot in Aug. Wish I could be there for that one..

  9. these are great! i would DEFINITELY not look that good at 102. and those dogs are awesome, too!

  10. I was going to say “I love the first few…..and the feet shot….and the ones with the dogs….and the piggyback one”, but I might as well just say “I love them all!” Whether I was with the love of my life or not, I would definitely NOT look that good (or happy) in 102 degrees – (Love you Matt!) :)

I love reconnecting with people from the past. Ashley is someone who floated into my life by chance 3 years ago, shot a few weddings with me, then relocated to Jackson Hole, Wyoming & tied the knot herself. If she would’ve stuck around NC, I would have offered her a full-time position at the studio in a heartbeat. She has one of those bubbly personalities that makes you fall in love with her & want to keep her around. Her work has vision, depth & a sincerity that is tough to find in this industry. I knew from the first wedding we shot together that she was going places…

So when she emailed about setting up a One on One session to give her budding photography business a jump start, I was excited to see her again & give her a few tools to do just that. Starting your own business is scary. There’s an accountability that comes along with taking that leap of faith & believing you can make it happen. I have no doubt that Ashley has an exciting career ahead. As I flipped through her portfolio during our session, I was struck by how authentic her work is. How every image has such truth to it…no fussy post-processing, no contrived poses….just a simple, powerful beauty. A lot can be said for great images that can stand alone. Images that can move you… not by the toning, or the props used, but by the honesty of the moment captured. Ashley is in the process of creating her new website now & hoping to launch it sometime this month, so you can bet I’ll be adding the link to this post as soon as it goes live. I have a feeling she’s going to take the Northwest by storm ( no pressure Ash ;)

Here are a few pics that I think capture the true spirit of Ashley…
